Mock Cherry Tree
Located on dog hill in Central Park, New York City, 300 yards south of the Metropolitan Museum, stands this lone mock cherry tree growing out of the rocks. This is in one of the park areas to which New Yorkers bring their dogs for exercise. The tree is easily recognized and has also become a meeting place for people as well.

"Drawn here in the spring when the tree was in full bloom, I was not only fascinated with the visual display of blooms but how the trunk had grown over and shaped it's base to fit the rocks." There is no record of this tree being planted by the park department, it may have been started by a seed dropped by a bird. The Mock Cherry species of tree produces no fruit, but it does produce seed. The shadows cast by the tree were purposely left off the drawing to show the visual relationship of the tree with the shape of the rocks.
